middle school quote

A few weeks ago I was helping to lead a discussion group and a middle school girl blurted out (because that is what middle school students do, they do not wait their turn) "my school is totally like the O.C."  And then immediately said something like, "yeah right, my school is so like One Tree Hill, you don't even know."  Without really thinking and really getting into this middle school "drama" I said well you guys should see what high school is like, it is a mix between Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy.  The other leader laughed and it has kind of become a joke between the leaders that middle school is exactly like the O.C.

On Tuesday mornings I lead a "bible study" with middle school students at school - it is more like I offer them doughnuts, remember their names, ask how their week was, and then pray with them - still it is pretty cool that the school is open to this type of thing.  Well today after we prayed and the bell rang one of the 7th grade girls who attends youth group told me that she is so upset because her youth group crush was exposed last week... Oh no!!!  I talked her through this drama and while ending the conversation she offered the parting thought, "you see, I told you that my school is just like the O.C."

On another note there is another middle school student who attends youth group and is surrounded by drama...  I affectionately call her "New York" as she reminds me of the character New York from Flavor of Love and I Love New York...

Middle School students crack me up...

aaaah, the hilarity of it all. I TOTALLY agree with your assessment of middle school and high school kids. I also noticed, while visiting IWU with our 8th grade the other day, that while kids might become more mature and "cool" in high school, they go through a regression when they become college freshmen, and they start acting like JH students again...You know, pulling stupid pranks, laughing at stupid jokes, and staying up all night to play video games. Really, someone needs to do a dissertation on this...
